Oheneba Poku Acheampong is Currently a law student at the Central Connecticut State University in America, yet he has been able to combine his music career with a childhood ambition of becoming a lawyer. Ghana Base Music had this interview with him.
Ghana Base Music: What is your full name?
O.P.A: Oheneba Poku Acheampong
Ghana Base Music: Any aliases or a.k.a’s ? How come that alias?
O.P.A: Ohenaba PK “The Hiplife Sec. General” ( I got the name from fellow musicians because of my artistic talents… I write, direct, sing, rap, ragga, and do my own back-ups.)
Ghana Base Music: Where do you come from?
O.P.A: Koforidua in the Eastern Region-Ghana.
Ghana Base Music: Can you tell us a little about your parents and family of birth?
O.P.A:My Dad is Mr. E. A. Acheampong, and my Mum is Agnes Asantewa Koranteng. I have 2 other siblings, me being the last born.
Ghana Base Music: Which schools did you attend?
O.P.A: Pentecost Prep. School (Koforidua), East Hartford High school, (Connecticut, USA), Central Connecticut State University, CT
Ghana Base Music: Where did you grow up and how was life when you were growing up?
O.P.A: Koforidua, Accra, USA. I spent most of my childhood and mid teens in Ghana before coming to the states.
Ghana Base Music: What do you do apart from music?
O.P.A: I am a student
Ghana Base Music: What are your hobbies?
O.P.A: Music, reading, poetry, soccer, table tennis (ping-pong), basketball.
Ghana Base Music: How do you cope with your career, profession and family?
O.P.A: There is time for everything, but my family comes first.
Ghana Base Music: How did you get into music?
O.P.A: Started when I was little like about 3 years old singing in church.
Ghana Base Music: What kind of music do you do?
O.P.A: Hiplife, Highlife, rap, R&B
Ghana Base Music: Do you play any musical instruments?
O.P.A: Accordion, drums, keyboard
Ghana Base Music: how did you learn it/them?
O.P.A: I was a very adventurous kid. I just liked music.
Ghana Base Music: How many albums do you have so far to your credit?
O.P.A: This is my first album.
Ghana Base Music: Share something with us about your albums.
O.P.A:I wrote all tracks on the album. It was produced by Moris Babyface and Executive produced by Alfred Priddy. It took about 2 months in the making. It is a mixture of hiplife, highlife, and R&B. Most of the tracks are fast paced, intended to be “dance catchy.”
Ghana Base Music: Have you had the chance to perform on any International platform?
O.P.A:Yes. I performed with kojo Antwi in New Jersey, Daddy Lumba in Virginia and New Jersey, USA; and also performed at events including Miss Africa in Massachusetts to name a few. I will be performing this coming July 14th 2007 as the promotional album launching in Connecticut, USA.
Ghana Base Music: How long do you wish to do music?
O.P.A: For a while then I will be producing.
Ghana Base Music: Do you have any awards so far?
O.P.A: No but am waiting for Hiplife Sec General Award to be mailed to me. (lol)
